Frequently Asked Questions
CNZ Open studio workout sessions
What’s an open studio CNZ session?
It’s a flexible, self-guided session where you work on your personalised programme at your own pace. Our expert coaches are there to guide you, but you’re not following a set class.
We call it CNZ open studio workout.
Do I need an orientation before I start?
Yes! Contrology NZ requires all new clients to do a quick orientation. Either as part of the free first consultation, or the starter pack, where you attend for 2x short private sessions. Or if you are a Pilates expert, a few minutes prior to your session. We’ll show you around, explain how things work, and make sure you’re comfortable with the equipment.
What equipment can I use?
You’ll have access to reformers, the Cadillac, wunda chairs, barrels, and all the small props. Basically, everything you need for a great Pilates workout.
Is an instructor always there?
Yes, there’s always a certified instructor on hand to answer questions, check your form, and keep things safe. But you’ll be working more independently than in a regular class.
What qualifications do your instructors have?
All our instructors are fully certified, first aid trained, and keep up with ongoing education. You’re in good hands!
Can you help if I have an injury or special needs?
Absolutely. Just let us know what’s going on, and we’ll help you modify exercises, or give you new ones, so you stay safe and get the most out of your session.
What should I bring?
Grip socks are a must for safety and hygiene. Bring a water bottle and a small towel if you like.
How early should I arrive?
Try to get here 5 minutes before your session starts. That way, you can get set up and chat with the instructor if you need to.
How do I make sure I get the equipment I want?
We do our best to make sure there’s enough equipment for everyone. If you want something specific we can arrange that with the other clients, or come during quieter times.
How many people are in an open studio session?
We keep group sizes small so everyone has space and access to equipment. 5 people maximum in the studio physically, plus 1 more on screen. If you’re curious about numbers, just ask us!
Can I do open studio sessions if I’m pregnant?
Yes, as long as you have your doctor’s OK and let us know. We’ll help you with safe modifications.
What if something hurts during my session?
Stop and tell the instructor right away. We’ll help you adjust or switch exercises so you’re comfortable.
How does pricing work?
We offer memberships 2 or 3x per week, and casual drop-in rates. Private sessions are priced separately. Just ask us for the latest options!
Can I use my membership at other Contrology NZ via zoom if I am out of town?
Yes, all sessions are available in studio or via Zoom.
How do I pick the right Pilates studio?
Look for certified instructors, a friendly vibe, and clean, well-equipped spaces. Come in for a tour and see if Contrology NZ feels right for you!
